Earlier this year we were hit with a black out in our part of the big city, which knocked power out at our house for over 24 hours. At the same time the city was going through a cold weather warning so we packed up some stuff and headed to the office, which fell just outside of the power outage area, and waited for the power to return.
The kids had such a good time that my husband and I thought we should plan another office sleepover, without the loss of power of course. And what better time than the start of March break.
The kids were so excited. Every night the week before the sleepover my kids would remind me ‘only three sleeps until we go to the office’ or ‘tomorrow night is sleepover night.’ Of course no sleepover is complete without snacks, lots of them. Cheesies. Chips. Pop. Brownies. Oh, and some mixed fresh fruit. At least I could say I did my responsible mom thing.
The office has a large open space the kids enjoy running around in and an empty space where we set-up the air mattresses for sleeping. The inflated air mattresses fit nice and snug beside each other become like a giant trampoline. The kids jump. They roll. They run. They have a great time.
The night is pretty much about goofing off and doing things we don’t reguallry do at home. We watch movies. We play video games. We eat snacks. We stay up way, way to late. We just hang out together.
We try to sleep. The kids squirm in their sleeping bags and talk about silly things. Eventually they give way to sleep. We all had a great time and look forward to the next sleepover. Though I’ll be glad to sleep in my own bed tonight.
